There seems to be some confusion with
respect to qualifying education and the national examination.
All qualifying education hours must be
successfully completed (i.e., 90 hours for Licensed Residential; 135 hours for
Certified Residential; and, 180 hours for Certified General) before the Board
can issue an entrance card for the national exam.
After successfully completing the
national examination, the scores are good for twenty-four (24) months from that
date. For example, if an individual
takes and passes the national exam on July 1, 2006, the scores are good until
June 30, 2008. This requirement was
put into place by the Appraisal Subcommittee and states cannot make any
exceptions.
Applicants must understand that if the
scores expire while the license application is being processed, you will be
required to re-take the exam. Please
keep this in mind when applying for an upgrade. The Board makes every effort to process
applications as quickly as possible; however, it can take between 90 and 120
days for the application to be processed and then given to the Board for final
approval if we experience an unusual number of applications.
When we receive an Upgrade application,
we verify education, national exam scores and the date taken, and the
experience logs, required for a particular license category. If any of these three components do not
meet the requirements for licensing, the application will be denied. The applicant can reapply when all
requirements have been completed.
Again, just to be clear, if national
exam scores expire at any time during the processing of the Upgrade
application, you will be required to re-take the exam. Please make sure you allow the Board
sufficient time to process the application before your test scores expire.
As always, if you need any information
about licensing procedures, call our office and we will be more than happy to
assist you.
